The first house was owned by a widow. Most of the roof was ripped off in Typhoon Yolanda. When we arrived, she had a mix of bent and leaky tin and tarp on her roof with bamboo poles. We replaced the bamboo poles with hardwood beams and new corrugated tin roofing.
I discovered on this first house that a roof in the Philippines was not meant for a guy my size. The ladder was hammered together from cut coco lumber and very wobbly. The roofing materials and framing were also weaker than I was comfortable with and slippery. The locals go barefoot on these roofs for extra grip and weigh a lot less than I do.
